Achieving The Modern Bathroom Look
A bathroom is one
place where we all spend a considerable period of time at home and so it is only right that they are designed to look
welcoming. There are many bathroom themes that have become popular
including rustic, coastal and the most popular, modern. A modern bathroom has many elements to it which all need to be
considered from the faucets and sinks, to the
bathroom mirrors. If you are remodeling your bathroom and want it to look
modern, here is a guide on how to tackle these different elements.
Vanities
Traditional vanities are typically
elaborately designed with heavy, carved tabletops and cabinets made of
hardwood. The modern vanity takes a step away from this, rejecting the idea
that the bathroom should be almost an extension of a bedroom. More modern
bathroom vanities are approached with a more minimalist design; some with
simple, sleek, chrome or marble tabletops. The traditional cabinets are then
replaced with simple bottom shelves for all your necessary bathroom
supplies.
Faucets & Sinks
Sometimes, the only thing you need
to do to make your bathroom look more modern is to change the bathroom taps. Traditional faucets typically come
in center-set units with two taps or as single-hole faucets with control for
both hot and cold water. Wall-mounted faucets represent a more modern design
and are ideal if you want to create more space in the vanity area.
Through changing the
bathroom faucets, you will also most likely have to change the bathroom sink as
well, so that they can complement one another.
There are a few options for modern style sinks, but none of them really say
“modern” like the vessel sink. Not only do they fit well with a modern style
vanity, but they also make the entire vanity area a focal point in the
bathroom.
Mirrors
Everyone needs a mirror in their bathroom for
the practicality of getting ready in the morning. While traditional options
have simply put a small piece of glass in front of the vanity, modern options
have gone in another direction. Try out a full-length gilded mirrors mounted on
a door or wall. Mirrors with built in lights have also started being
increasingly popular or you can look to play with shapes with large round and
rectangular mirrors above a vanity becoming increasingly prominent in modern bathrooms.
Bathtubs
If you are trying to give your
bathroom the modern, luxury look, then you definitely cannot fit it with that
traditional, alcove bathtub that most homes have. The bathtub is one element where functionality
should play a large part in choice, rather than purely the aesthetic look. For that,
you need a more modern and suitable option like a soaking tub. These are bigger
and offer a better bathing experience. Another modern option is a freestanding
tub. These tubs are perfect if there is space in the bathroom and you want to
create a more stylish look.
Heated Flooring
An often overlooked part of bathroom
design is the floor. Traditionally, bathroom floors are covered with tiles.
While tiles are great, they can be pretty cold on some mornings. A good way to
go modern with them is to have a tile setter fit the floor with electric heat mats
before installing the tiles. They can then be connected to your thermostat,
giving your feet the modern-world gift of
warmth
Your bathroom is a special part of
your home and should be
aesthetically pleasing, while still maintaining a high degree of functionally.
Consider the various elements in this guide to give your bathroom that overall
modern look.
